Shalom and happy Sabbath!
When we do good deeds, to whom do we actually do it for? Is it for the glory of God or ourselves?
There is a quote from the book Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing that says, “By their good works, Christ’s followers are to bring glory, not to themselves, but to Him through whose grace and power they have wrought.” (Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing 80.5)
Thus, “… in acts of charity the aim should not be to secure praise and honor from men. … Those who desire words of praise and flattery, and feed upon them as a sweet morsel, are Christians in name only.” (Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing 80.4)
That is why Jesus said, “Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:1)
May our motives in doing charity is for the glory of His name instead for our own selves. Amen.
God bless us.
