Shalom and happy Sabbath.
Continuing our topic from last week about foods that look like body parts, we will be talking about carrots today.
Have you ever sliced a carrot? For those who like cooking or juicing, slicing a carrot is probably one of the most common things we do. What body part that is similar to a sliced carrot?
It is amazing to know that a sliced carrot is very similar to the pupil and iris of our eyes. No wonder that carrots are good for our eyes.
Did you know that the orange color of carrots is produced by the beta-carotene? In other words, carrots are rich of beta-carotene.
What is it and its benefits?
Beta-carotene is known to have antioxidant and provitamin A which will be converted to vitamin A. Beta-carotene helps reducing and even preventing cataract, keeping the eyes healthy, and antioxidant protects the cell from being damaged, reduces the risk of cancer, heart disease, and balancing the blood sugar level in the body.
The research done by the “American Journal of Ophthalmology” found out that women who consume 2 portions of carrots a week will lower the risk of glaucoma up to 64%.
Glaucoma is one of the visual impairments caused by the damage in the optic nerve, mostly because of the high pressure in the eye.
It is amazing to know that sliced carrots, which look similar to our eyes, have benefits for our eyes too.
And God does not want us to only protect our physical eyes, but let us also protect our spiritual eyes as the Bible says in Luke 11:34, “The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.”
So, let us keep our spiritual eye on the right side and we will be the children of light. “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.” (Ephesians 5:8-9)
God bless you all. Amen.
