Shalom and happy Sabbath!
For the next couple of Sabbaths, we will be discussing about the day of delight, and on this Sabbath day we will hear the first part of it with the title “What Day is it?”
According to the book of Isaiah, the day of delight is the Sabbath day. Isaiah 58:13 says, “… call the sabbath a delight …”
From that verse, we know that the Sabbath day is a day of delight. The next question is what day the Sabbath is? There are two ways to explain the Sabbath day. One of them has been discussed on one of our devotions on July 25, 2020 entitled “Blessings on the Sabbath” on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K0h6CgRFK4.
Today we will be explaining using the verses when Jesus died. We all know that Jesus died on the cross on Friday, don’t we? Mark 15:42 says, “… it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath.”
If Jesus died on the preparation day, the following day was Sabbath day, wasn’t it?
It means if Jesus died on Friday, the Sabbath day is Saturday.
Today is September 4th, 2021, and it is the Lord’s Sabbath day and He reminds us in the 10 commandments to “remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” (Exodus 20:8)
Thus, let us keep this day holy as it is the Sabbath day, because Jesus Himself had said, “If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” (Isaiah 58:13-14)
May this day be a day of delight and full of blessings for each one of us. Amen.
