Your Speech is Your Food

Shalom and happy Sabbath!

Your speech is your food—what does it mean? It means that our speech is likened to our food. If the healthy, nutritious food that we eat can strengthen our physical bodies, so do our words, speech, and conversations. If we have positive words, then our thoughts and physical bodies will also be positive and good. and vice versa.

It is crucial for us to pay attention to our speech and to keep it as a “healthy food” for us.

“We are not to be tattlers, or gossipers, or talebearers; we are not to bear false witness. We are forbidden by God to engage in trifling, foolish conversation, in jesting, joking, or speaking any idle words. We must give an account of what we say to God. We will be brought into judgment for our hasty words that do no good to the speaker or to the hearer. Then let us all speak words that will tend to edification. Remember that you are of value with God. Allow no cheap, foolish talk or wrong principles to compose your Christian experience.”

Mind, Character and Personality, Vol. 1, 113.1

It is why Jesus said, “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” (Matthew 12:35-37)

Let us make our speech as a “healthy food” for our bodies and observe what comes out of our mouth carefully.

Happy Sabbath and God bless all of us. Amen.
