Inheritance of peace

Shalom, Happy Sabbath!

Do you know? Christ gave His disciples an inheritance of peace before He was crucified.

Jesus Himself said to His disciples: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

What kind of peace does it mean? Are all the words “peace” good and true? Not necessarily! Therefore, be careful with the word “peace.”

Why must we be careful with the word peace? Let us consider two important points!

The first reason why the word peace is not always good and true is because in Jeremiah 9:8 it says: “Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait.”

So, there are many people who say peace in their mouths, but plan evil. That is why the word peace is not always good and true. Then what’s the reason for both?

The second reason why the word peace is not always good and true is because Jeremiah said, “They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.” (Jeremiah 6:14)

So, there are many people, even prophets and priests, even deceive them to say peace when in fact there is no peace.

What are the results?

The result was “Parents were bitterly reproaching their children, and children their parents, brothers their sisters, and sisters their brothers. Loud, wailing cries were heard in every direction, “It was you who kept me from receiving the truth which would have saved me from this awful hour.” The people turned upon their ministers with bitter hate and reproached them, saying, “You have not warned us. You told us that all the world was to be converted, and cried, Peace, peace, to quiet every fear that was aroused. You have not told us of this hour; and those who warned us of it you declared to be fanatics and evil men, who would ruin us.” (Early Writings 282.1)

Therefore, be careful with the word “peace” that we hear.

So, “This peace is not the peace that comes through conformity to the world. Christ never purchased peace by compromise with evil. The peace that Christ left His disciples is internal rather than external and was ever to remain with His witnesses through strife and contention.” (The Acts of the Apostles 84.1)

Be careful with “peace” that compromises “sin” because that is not real peace. No wonder He said: “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34)

Therefore, let us always have the peace that truly comes from Christ… For those who bear fruit in Christ certainly have peace that does not come from compromises with the world, but because we abide in the true vine, which is Christ.

Happy Sabbath and Jesus Bless Us.
