What does gossip mean? According to the Indonesian dictionary, gossip means a conversation about other people; negative stories about someone.

We may have often talked negative stories about someone and because of that, we have wasted our time unknowingly.

We have to be careful in what comes out of our mouths, because the things that we like to talk about might be something that triggers fight or other things that lead to sin.

Be cautious in our words because any false information can lead to hatred.

“If all these gossipers would ever bear in mind that an angel is following them, recording their words, there would be less talking and much more praying.”

Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 4, 40.1

That is why the Bible says, “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.” (Proverbs 10:19).

Please do remember! “… which you sow you will also reap. … Every word you utter, every act you perform, is a seed which will bear good or evil fruit, and will result in joy or sorrow to the sower.” (Messages to Young People 146.2)

We have been reminded, in the Bible, to always be cautious with our tongues, because it might be the source of our sin.

“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”

James 3:5-6

Though our tongue can cause bad things, we can choose to use it as a channel of blessings to others and to glorify God.

“Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.”

James 3:9

Thus, let us use our tongues in the right way. Praise Him who created the heavens and the earth and who created our tongues to testify the living God.

May the blessings of this Sabbath be with us all. Amen.
