Blessings on Sabbath

Happy Sabbath!

We know from the Bible that God created the earth in six days, and He said “it was good” on the first five, and “it was very good” on the sixth. But the seventh day was even more than “very good.” It’s the most special.

According to the Bible, what day is the seventh? It is very clear that it is called the Sabbath day which falls on Saturday.

However, is it true that the Sabbath is Saturday? Is it not Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or other days?

Some say that Sabbath is on Sunday. Well, it is if we start counting it from Monday. Or it can be on other days, depending on where you start counting the first day. However, let us firgure out the truth by looking at what the Bible says.

And we all know that Jesus rose on Sunday, don’t we? And the same Sunday is also mentioned as the first day of the week as it is written in Mark 16:9.

So, if we follow what the Bible says, we will start counting from Sunday, as the first day, and we will fall on Saturday as the seventh day. Very clear!

Now, what is special about the Sabbath? Aren’t all days the same?

The Bible says in Genesis 2:3, “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

From here we learn that only on Sabbath day God blessed and sanctified it.

So, there is a special blessing that God gives to us on the Sabbath day, and not on the other days.

What is the blessing?

In Isaiah 58:13-14 the Bible says, “If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord , honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:  Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord ; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”

What a beautiful promise that God gave to those who honour and sanctify the Sabbath of the Lord, that we will delight ourselves in the Lord and ride upon the high places of the earth and eat from the heritage of Jacob.

Other than that, there is a healing and other blessings that we receive on the the Sabbath day as we keep it holy as it is written in Isaiah 58.

May this devotion reminds us that there are many blessings that God provides for his people who keep, honour, and sanctify His holy Sabbath day.

And may the blessing of this Sabbath be with us throughout the day.

Happy Sabbath and Jesus bless us.
