Is Bamboo Tree or Grass?

Shalom and happy Sabbath!

We are reading a fact from The All-New Book of Amazing Facts Volume 1 page 9.

“Did you know that bamboo is a type of grass considered to be the fastest-growing plant in the world? Known for its tall, thick stalks, bamboo is a member of the true grass family known as Poaceae. In the warmer climates of Asia, bamboo can grow as much as 39 inches per day! …

The bamboo plant is also versatile, with an extraordinary range of uses—from garden tools and fishing rods to bird cages and roofing, to name just a few.

In fact, during WWII in the South Pacific, the U.S. Navy used bamboo to reinforce concrete! Pretty incredible when you remember that bamboo is just, well … gigantic grass!”

So, is bamboo a type of tree or grass? In fact, it is grass!

What can we learn from it?

First, when we learn that bamboo is the fastest-growing plant in the world, then we can also learn to grow in our spiritual lives. Everyone indeed has different processes in spiritual growth, but it is not wrong to ask God to help us to grow quickly in Him.

The Word also writes, “ … beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:17-18)

Why do we need to ask God to help us grow quickly? For “said the angel, ‘Deny self; ye must step fast.’ Some of us have had time to get the truth and to advance step by step, and every step we have taken has given us strength to take the next. But now time is almost finished, and what we have been years learning, they will have to learn in a few months.” (Early Writings 67.2)

Therefore, pray and ask for His hands to guide and help our spiritual growth.

Second, as bamboo has an extraordinary range of uses, make our lives a blessing for others. “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Matthew 5:13)

Be a blessing wherever we may be.

May the devotion today be a reminder for us to ask His guidance that we can grow quickly in our spiritual lives and may it be a blessing wherever we are.

Happy Sabbath and God bless all of us. Amen.
