Mangrove is able to live in extreme conditions
1. Muddy Terrain
In general, most plants cannot survive in muddy conditions. When the ground is saturated in mud, oxygen intake by the plants’ root system is inhibited. As a result, the plants will:
- Suffer a lack of oxygen,
- Experience restricted growth.
Seawater prevents plant growth due to its high salt content. Plants other than mangroves cannot survive on seawater due to its inability to filter the salt out in order to absorb nutrients.
Just like the mangroves, we live in extreme conditions. We live in the last days that are full of
"adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies."
The mangrove is able to survive because of its roots’ ability to filter out 90% of the salt.
The rest of it is expelled through its trunk and leaves.
Like the mangrove, we should be able to survive living in these extreme last days,
by filtering and expelling the evil in our thoughts.
"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries,
How do we safeguard our thoughts?
"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus."
"Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Despite living in extreme conditions, mangroves still is beneficial towards the people and animals that live around it. Incredible!
The benefits of mangrove:
- Protects the land from incoming big waves
- Provides shelter for animals.
- Its fruits can be turned into various foods and drinks.
- Its trunk can be turned into high quality charcoal.
Anyone can be beneficial to his or her surroundings,
because everyone is endowed with special talents.
"And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one,
to each according to his own ability..."
It is up to us whether to utilize them or not.
Become like the mangrove…
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another,
as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
[1 Peter 4:10]
